Hello FriendIn Section 6.26. Shadow-4.1.5.1When I want to open a bz2 file I get

It might be an error, but maybe not. The only requirement is that the
kernel name in the grub.cfg 'linux' line match the file name in
(usually)

We pretty much assume that CONFIG_IDE_GD is selected in the kernel.
Going into specific kernel configs is beyond what the book does.

Thank you all. It would appear that I am too far in over my head and I
should quit while I am ahead. Only next choice seems to be to reinstall
the OS and leave well enough alone. For now I will leave it as broken as
it is an hope I don't make it worse.

error message when I tried to run './configure':
bash: ./configure: No such file or directory
There is a 'configure' script in the 'binutils-2.17' directory;
I started a new LFS 7.1 installation and this time I used Kubuntu 12.04
32Bit as host system.
All packages from Chapter 6 compiled without any problems then.
I'm not sure, what the problem was, maybe I had a typo in the configure
command for perl.

Then perl did not get installed in Chapter 5 or you did't have ln -sv

background notes at end of post) I received the following error:

have a look at chapter 5.12 Binutils. ld-new is installed there.
Something must have gone wrong here.

hi everybody!
i got stuck here, but i got no idea why the linker is missing,
the earlier two commands in 6.10 of the stable lfs-book all
worked:
> mv -v /tools/bin/{ld,ld-old}
> mv -v /tools/$(gcc -dumpmachine)/bin/{ld,ld-old}
but it seems as i do not have a ld-new to be moved to ld..
