That patch did the job.
Here is an LFS'd version of the patch. The above doesn't apply due to a
timestamp in the patch.

Ahha. Using ld version 2.15.96 20050308 and all is well (no error). So, use:
ftp://sources.redhat.com/pub/binutils/snapshots/binutils-2.15.96.tar.bz2
if you want to use the latest Glibc.
BTW, I think FSF binutils-2.16 is scheduled for April.

That looks nearly identical to the one in the patches repo. I'll get to
it ASAP. I'm at work and thus logging in remotely now, so I can't test

I pulled up some old versions of LFS. This problem seems to have been
around on 4.0.4.1, 4.0.6, and now 4.0.7 versions of shadow.
I have no idea why I'm just now catching it. Probably because I'm very
tentative about this current build so am checking it with a fine-toothed
comb.
