I totally agree. Personally, I have 4 other serial devices I want to deal
with. this gets to be a complete mess if its a hard wired cable.
Oh, and dont move the programming computer.

damn, I thought you were talking about my set up! I've got all those

Yes, you could use a terminal server but that's overkill. A serial hub is
a better solution. I purchased a comtrol rocket port si (8 serial port
version). It lists for $999 but I found it for $300 new via mailorder.

Serial over 50 feet is absolutely no problem if you want to run rs232 over

nope, you are stuck with CID to a SINGLE analog line. and, yes, you need
the 171 which I believe is being discontinued.

I'm putting a holovision in my project and specifically asked that

hopefully the product matches. They are using a different process that

I've wanted to do this (got lots of spare, old, slow modems...) but dont
see how to collect SMDR and use a modem at the same time on an 816. I
suppose I could use carrier detect to drive some sort of switch but that
may be more expensive than the pana solution. Anybody got a more
reasonable idea
javier,
to program the 816, you can use the panasonic software but you need to be
certified (normal people cant get it). but there is good news,
Programmator (http://www.pbxsoftware.com/) is pretty good and does a good
job. Its fairly up to date (-4) and is easy to use.
