Gussets, gussets, gussets I'm starting to really hate gussets. I know it is a
necessary evil but I for one will be glad to finish with them and get to
working on something that really looks like progress. On the up side of things
the fuselage is starting to look really good. I am planning on

Some time ago I listed a posting on fitting cross members with gussets
already fitted, and somebody replied saying that the curvature of the side
frame would pose a problem, I did mean to reply but have been lost with other
activities of late, and I know, its a subject which has been flogged

HI,
I have a question... does it matter which way the grain of the gussets
are going? I just took a piece of my 5/8 spruce stock and started cutting at
90 and 45 degree angles... is this exceptable?

David, What you are doing is reinforcing the structure. Have the grain
orientation match if possible. If you have glued some with the wrong grain,
mark them with magic marker, leave them until you have covered the sides and
then put a plywood stiffener over the intersection. Don't go back and
Richmond Australia.

Here is what I did! Get some kids Play Dough, put a piece of wax paper
where the gusset is going to be, squeez the Play Dough in that spot and
remove carefully and, voila, you wil have a perfect three dimensions model.

When I was cutting all the gussets for the fuselage I used a trick that
someone told me about and it worked very well. Whether the gusset
has a single angle or compound angle you really don't care what that
angle is, you just want to duplicate it on whatever you are using to cut
, sand, etc. tha
