The previous discussion a few weeks ago about WAFs, and laser cutting, heat
treating, etc, didn't set well with me. So today I finally found out why. As
it turns out, 4130 steel air normalizes. That means that if you heat it up,
and then just let it sit out to cool down, you have returned it
I tried to make this point many times, but didn't get accross the process, I
have welded 4130 with acetylene torch ( my landing gears)and they are just
fine. Some oxidation by the weld but they clean up with a a little sand
blasting with micro beads. Heat treating is unnecessary and extra expens

I have been following this thread and swore I wouldn't get into it. Oh
well, I have never been one to sit on the sidelines.
I have no qualifications what so ever to base this on but that doesn't
seem to be stopping anyone else. As I understand what is being said,
you can heat a piece of 4130
