The Zenith carb model 14998 has been used on tens of thousands of farm
tractors and industrial engines. Zenith carbs and repair parts and kits are
only sold through retail dealers. Prices vary. The model 14998 is an
updraft carb with a side draft air entrance. This carb will not function

Is that a side draft carb ? And for which engine ? Virg

After 4 flights I made a new bracket to mount the Bowden cable throttle
installation for the Zenith carb. I removed the throttle lever mounted on
the left side in the cockpit to install a push knob control on the
instrument panel. Logic for the lever quadrant and the push knob are
reversed.

I am using a Zenith from Great Plains on my 2180 VW. The carb is mounted
directly behind the Diehl adapter case. If you have a magneto at that
location, then mounting the carb there will not work to well. I used the
intake manifold kit from Great Plains, but opened the Y section to raise the
I have a spring on the Zenith throttle shaft that will pull WOT if the
throttle cable breaks. That WOT spring was keeping the butterfly slightly
open and not closing fully at idle. Verified operation by loosening the Bug

I have had a throttle cable break and a mixture cable break. I have a spring on
my mixture now.

Years ago I took my Grumman TR2 to get it's annual inspection. The
carburetor was rebuilt and I flew it about an hour when the throttle arm came
unhooked in flight. If the carburetor had been spring loaded to go to idle,
It would have been a very bad thing. However, the carburetor was spr
Finally got my Zenith carb adjusted on my 2180 VW to consistently and
reliably idle at 700 RPM. I found that the torsion spring between the
butterfly shaft and the throttle arm was not strong enough to return the
shaft to the full closed position. I added another extra tension spring

Since I have put in an air/fuel ratio gauge I have noticed very wide changes in
the air/fuel ratio at different throttle settings and with small changes in the
amount of carb heat used. If I adjust the mixture for a perfect 14.7/1 ratio
at about 75% power it will stay there, but increasing the
Brian,
You can expect the richer mixture when adding carb
heat, and you would expect to have to lean the engine
when you add carb heat. Yours sounds a little
excessive, indicating a problem somewhere else. You
should not experience large changes in mixture just by
changing the throttle setting.
