possibly easier spin recovery was mentioned in the NASA spin prone
designs topic (but that may have required much more than just rounded
corners), but was that part of the original reason, or is was this mod
just cosmetic?

completed and flown a rounded-bottom fuselage plane. I believe he got
the idea from Dr. Dean back in the late 1990'
