I am using a Ray Allen trim system with the LED-position indicator.
Yesterday during testing I discovered that when pressing the radio
transmit button the LED indicator indicates maximum travel and the LED
lights very weak.

If the problem with the RF coupling to the trim wire is back in the
tailcone, can't you just wrap some aluminum foil around the wiring where it
runs close to the antenna? It wouldn't be visible back in the tailcone and
wouldn't be any worse for the antenna than having a wire there.
