I finally got to talk to the guy. The engines came from a vo-tech school, but had never been pulled down. The current owner is an A&P and he's never had any reason to pull them down, said they would have to be gone thru and checked out. He's "reasonably confident" that between the two engines one g

Folks have had good luck with O-200s, according to info on the net So the 235 should work well... OTOH, parts are MUCH more expensive than corvair parts, and you would need a custom engine mount (a/o being able to buy prefab mounts designed for mounting either the corvair or VW motors to a
