How did you go with the WAF?
I ordered cut 4130 from a aircraft supplier in Australia, then just cut then
to length, cleaned them, and drilled them.

If I buy strips of 4130 steel of the correct thickness from Aircraft
Spruce, can I use them as they are to make WAFs, or is there any treatment
(other that surface treatment) that I must apply?

There used to be a very informative webpage from Dr. Dean on this subject,
later linked
of ready made
WAF's, it's worth it unless you are wealthy it's a good way to go.

The heat treatment is "condition N". You can either start there or end

heating it to red and letting it aircool at
room temperature same as you do with

for a very nominal cost.
