The length of wire from the power sorce to the light (LED) is not a problem. Not a lot of current draw, and heat is not a problem if you use a proper size wire. I would suggest you run shielded wire and ground the shield at the power source not at the wing tip. This will keep electrical noise down.

Stephen, I have a KR2 that I am about to restore (refinish). I doubt this is a Ken Rand KR2 S. If it is I agree its musiem for sure.
