KRnet> Information on Fiberglass for KR

2023-05-10 Thread James McGauhey via KRnet
Several years ago I was interested in building a KR and there was a gathering in Oregon. During that Mark Langford gave a talk called Fiberglass 101 and he showed the basics of fiberglass, micro, and foam work. I took a video and posted it on YT, now has had 11K views. https://youtu.be/sVYfaTnIsSc

What instruments are required for Experimental aircraft? Answer: NONE! This trips up a lot of DAR’s and FSDO’s. They quote 91.205, which says: § 91.205 Powered civil aircraft

Granted true airspeed is not a necessary bit of knowledge in flight, but I look at it occasionally to measure plane performance. Reading the fine print, or footnote for many aircraft reveals their speed performance numbers are based on true airspeed at 8,000 ft. So I'll occasionally look at this an

I also agree and flew round gauges from 1982 to 2017. And if you really want, the Dynon can be configured to show a round gauge 6-pack. It took me about 30 seconds to get used to a tape instead of round gauge, only a couple flights to find everything on the glass panel in an instant. But then I

I fly a Dynon Skyview in Zenith CH-650. I was going to build a KR when this opportunity came up and 3 others joined me to share costs and build. Built from 2015 to 2017, flew WA to OSH in 2017 and 2019. This was 2019 event. Highly unlikely, but great to have Dynon and Nrst shows closest airports

I just installed a pair of Tanaka 4 pt in my Zenith CH-650 and like them a lot (they have 5 pt also). They have a camlock design with tang that points down, just push sideways to release 3 straps (4th is permanent to buckle). Lightweight, got them fast from Amazon. I see they now have Tanaka

I think the trim tab concept is to simplify installation. If your control cables work fine and are adjusted properly, then one train of thinking is to not mess with those. Adding small trim tabs is a simple thing to do without messing with your controls. That said, most autopilots do work by

Great idea to make it a donation, Pete. I’m prez of EAA Chapter 84 in Snohomish, WA, about 20 miles northeast of Seattle. We are a 501 (c)(3) organization and can give tax donation letters. Anything more than $5,000 requires an appraisal, but less than that I just write a letter. There’s pr

FYI, I have been following KR for years, bought a KR Super 2S project, and attended 2015 gathering in Oregon. But now have sold the project and completed a Zenith CH-650 and flown that from WA to OSH twice. (Have 4 builder/owners and they didn't want KR plus we got the wings for free from EAA.)

They probably want a pilot on the policy since it is airworthy. See if someone will volunteer. When we built a Zenith CH-650 we got a quote for 2 pilots with only 5-8 hrs 650 time (insurance required 5 hr min) and we had high hull insurance of $70K to cover cost of new build with Rotax, Dynon, et

Consider gaffer's tape. It's a high quality tape made to stick well, but remove without a trace. Looks like duct tape, but much higher quality with different stickum. Designed for video productions to cover wires on walls and carpet. It ain't cheap, like $30 to $50/roll, but comes in a variety
