After flying 2 kr2 planes last week, one of which is an 'S' model, I have
concluded that I need to be a better pilot. Until I flew one, I had no idea
how difficult it is. I'm an infant 300hr pilot, commercial, IFR, aerobatics,
high performance and tailwheel endorsed. It took me 45min at altit
Archives last mention stall strips in 1998, and Tom's Att email account is
surprisingly... inactive.
Tom are you still around?
Can anyone enlighten me on how to place a stall strip on a wing?
I know what they are for, just not what size and position to place them on the
leading edge.

2 years ago a guy at my airport put an aerovee 50-65hp on his sonex and
cartwheeled it on a 3000' grass rwy after he got past V1, established ground
effect, and decided to pull the plane off the ground to fly and the runway end
neared. 4000hrs total time in jets primarily doe
That makes me wonder if they will try to wiggle out of a claim. then again, I
approached them with new business, and as far as minimizing their risk, which
they told me is an 'individual underwriter' basis, you are a great risk for
them[as in desired], and maybe you will be fine in the event of
My quest for insurance has left an interesting tip today:
Falcon insurance will not insure the kr-2, and will insure the kr-2S.
Just thought I'd like to share! So far, this is the only company that made
this distinction between the standard '2' and the '2S'.

I posted this last week when the topic was active and never saw it. If I
missed it, forgive this space please!

I've enjoyed the posts. This is my .02 when it comes

It occurred to me one day when I had the choice of flying
east one beautiful day when I had no wind up to 15k' [okay, maybe 3kts] for a
200nm trip in my C-150. No one ever taught what altitude to fly for b
I'm ready to feel safe and meet the insurance company requirement. The
insurance companies are looking for ten hours of dual before turning me loose.
I don't expect any one person to put up with me for that long! Also, I haven't
chosen a company yet, I may be able to get away with 3hrs... so
I'm offering to buy a plane load of fuel if you stop at my airport enroute
anywhere this holiday season. Offer expires new years or so with no hard date.

In exchange I want you to show me your plane and review the systems in it like

Wanted: someone near burbank CA who has mostly built, and hopefully finished a
KR, or other similar plane to give me a 2nd set of eyes to lookover a plane I'm
about to buy. The plane has not completed the 40hr signoff due to owner
medical reasons and I want someone intimately familiar with a K
...or anyone else that can lend advice to me. I'm Andy, that guy whos trying
to buy a flying KR.
Pete said hes not on the internet [no web page]. Does anyone know his email?
I'd like to ask him how he got his plane's airworthiness certificate, which
will help me do the same thing.
I want to
I remember a mirage pilot say that the mirage was the last real jet fighter
because he could feel the stress during maneuvers and was more than honored to
fly it [then compared it to the F-16]. He shared a love flying that plane.
Given history, I like the wire controls. Hydraulics and electro
Congrats on finishing a project Josh! I'm so very happy to hear another build
is done! Now I'm sure you can relax AFTER the inspection.
...Hope to see you and plane some day.

It is my understanding that the KR has the option for "glider wings" and that
wings in general are "removable". Removable is understood by me to not be
abused, and may ease in transportation ONCE, and then to be left alone - I
agree.
Is it feasible to have a set of glider wings to put on fo
I believe it was Larry: "Not
>only do I hardly ever fly passengers (because few people are stupid enough
>to want to climb in that little airplane with me)"
I've thought of this too. Good point. Is the speed loss known yet from
widening the fuse width? Meaning, a Kr1 width [one person, yes yes
"Its not illegal to have someone build your plane it is illegal to sign a form
saying you built it."
I'm understanding this a little more - so fine, I won't be the builder, so I
won't do my own annuals. Fine by me, a little more expensive, but I can handle
that. Besides, a 2nd pair of eyes is
So far so good - I think the KR will work for me in some form of variant. :)
My new question is whether to buy a kit, finished plane, etc. In the event I
buy an unfinished project [I think the easiest to find], is there a place that
I can have build the plane for me? I know this may seem to b
Whoa there horsey! I merely mentioned IFR at night as to describe my desire
for the planes capability. I will most likely never do this. After all, a
twin comanche that flies daily will still lose an engine after SIX A&P and 3
IA's inspect it and will still end up being consumed by Idaho Rock
I too believe that the KR is the plane for me. Though 6'1" tall, I am told the
older versions are out, but I want as close as I can get to turbo [normalizing,
and subject to VW engine capability because economy high alt cruise is the idea
here], RG, IFR, night plane. Before you reply there is
