AGM batteries seem to be about the same cold cranking amps as comparable
lead/acid batteries. It's the Lithium Iron batteries that can really deliver
the amperage.

Thanks, Jeff. You put things in perspective and in order.
Is it true that, because of their internal construction, AGM batteries
have lower internal resistance, and that enables them to deliver the
higher amperage for cranking power than other types of lead-acid
batteries? It's been a long whi
I'm seeing a lot of misinformation about batteries being bandied about. There
are three types of batteries. All have their good and bad points and any of
the three types can be used with any type of engine.
The most common is the old lead acid batteries. Of course they require a

Thanks for all the responses. Heat is a concern also being in the engine
compartment on the firewall, it would be nice if it didn't explode. The
old one was a lead acid type...I guess it was ok. It won't take a charge.
I forgot, I'm also in the market for a new spinner. Thanks again.
On Sat,
I couldn't find William's post on the battery, but, IIRC, he warned that
lithium batteries have internal wiring to protect them, and a plane that
was using one had that circuitry shut the battery down, which killed the
ignition. There is no such circuitry in a lead-acid battery.

I think the premise is a leak proof battery - and of course weight is ALWAYS an

a fan of LiPo - but the challenge of charging and discharging safely is

I'm sure William Wynne is recommending a battery for use with a Corvair Engine.
For the VW, the Lawn and Tractor type battery works fine for me.
There are lots of options out there. The basic lawn and tractor battery is

William Wynne recommends an Odyssey AGM battery, I believe a 680 or
