Stef,
Small holes, the kind for small bundles of wires are fine. If you start making
many holes and put them close together, that can become a problem.

Hi,
I am bussy to wire the plane. I have some wires that will penetrate the fire
wall just below the lower shelf. I put some electronic boxes on that shelf like
everybody is doing. The quickest way to get on top of the lower shelf is to
dril some holes in it, so I can run a few awg 20 wires thr
Thanks everyone! Several good ideas and products are in transit now to assess

John,
I used the fibrefrax and stainless foil (.002")to create heat shields on the
cowling. You can get the foil in 12" or 24" wide rolls. I sealed the perimeter
with red rtv. So far so good.

I wrapped my entire exhaust system in fiberglass cloth, saturating it with
silicone instead of epoxy. This has worked well for many years to lessen
the heat in the lower cowl. Ordinary household silicone can take a lot of

The guys that fly model jet turbines have the same problem and use a heat
shielding cloth, check Bob Violet models for supply. That stuff worked well on
my RV8 when I installed a four into one exhaust.
