I updated my IdeaPad-5-15ARE05 to 5.7.10 (https://kernel.ubuntu.com
/%7Ekernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D) with NO LUCK! Brightness isn't working
at all.
The brightness buttons change the value in this file:
"/sys/class/backlight/ideapad/brightness" (from 1 to 21) but not
effective.

Hi Dan,
Thanks I forgot the syntax for the apport-collect. I ran it this morning
on my laptop.it sent some info, hope that helps.
Im part of an ubuntu group on fb and this is a common problem.
unfortunatly I dont see anything in my dmesg logs this time.

Problem: when I launch an application there is a noise coming from the

Actually I posted this bug about 3 weeks ago when I purchassed my own laptop
and it got confirmed but nothing more. I don't want to be rude and spam it but
its kinda sad that lenovo advertises as ububtu certified but still let's this

Wow, I have now same bug with VLC. I can start it, but can not quit. It do not
respond to quit and stays in tray and in background. I need to kill it to start
again if I want to watch anything other.

It is really not within my power to get a shell or gui without acpi=off.
Following your suggestion, I provoked such a failed boot by temporarily

Running kernel 5.8 and have this issue. I'm currently using xrandr (I
have bash scripts if wanted) mapped to the brightness keys to adjust the
brightness using software but this causes issues with other display
software (such as f.lux). I am desperately looking for a fix for this.
