Start KDenLive and add a video cliip to the project. If there is no profile yet
for this video, a pop up dialog appears "No profile found for your clip"
(picture attached).
Then click on "> Continue" and KDenLive crashes. However, the new profile seems

Creating new subtitles within kdenlive works just fine and it automatiicall
obeys the UTF-8 encoding for non-ascii characters.
When I save and close kdenlive, the automatcially saved srt file also correctly
shows the non-ascii UTF-8 characters when inspected with a simple text editor.

Sorry, I forgot to mention my kdenlive version: 22.12.2, running on an
up-to-date linux Fedora 37.

This happens rarely, but consistently: updating a title clip first freezes
kdenlive (no mouse interaction possible) and then eventually it crashes
(window disappears). When I restart, it offers me to recover from a
