In the qmake port Makefile, there is the following snippet:

Possibly - just a guess here - because the clucene inside Qt is relatively old
and is missing a fair number of patches done upstream later

Why is there a qt-clucene port? As far as I can tell, the sources in qt were
imported to be used internally.

You'd like to coordinate your work with qt maintainers (commiters) in any
case. I don't currently bother about qt3/qt4 coexistence, as I work with pure
qt4
