You'd like to coordinate your work with qt maintainers (commiters) in any case. I don't currently bother about qt3/qt4 coexistence, as I work with pure qt4 and kde4 installation (inside jail). My plans are compile and run kde4 without qt3 and kde3, and than we'll think how to reconcile old and new stuff.
