completely purged my local applications folder, reboot, and add them again.

No, need for it. I figured it out.
I removed all files in the /.local/share/applications folder, made a logoff,
login and re-added the problematic icons. Now it is working OK.

Hmm, tricky, all the data looks good ... WM_CLASS matches name of the .desktop
file, launcher URL is good in appletsrc. This shouldn't be a metadata problem.

ADDITIONAL INFO: I use only one task manager (icons only) and yes, I have
actually the 5.7.1 version.
