(norton disk doctor) for dos..it will automatically scan for partitions and
will prompt u like "a 2134 MB (just for name sake) partition found..u wanna recover it

Try the following set of commands , i did the same when i blew up my linux
partition
1) start the system in Linux rescue mode
2) mknod /dev/hda
3) mount /dev/hda( whatever ur / drive no. was)
4) repeat step 3 for /boot
5) e2fsck -f (force file system check n repair)
6) mount /dev/hda(no.) /mn
