I'm struggling with makefile-hardcoded pathes for xditview and other
glitches.

While I browsed through some documentation, I discovered that a whole set of
manuals was produced with troff:
(1) OSF/Motif: User's Guid
As the title says: A new option `-j' is now available to groff to call
the `chem' preprocessor.
