As Ubuntu and Linux Mint are ultimately Debian based it should be possible to
install using dpkg or the Gdebi installer (you may need to install this on
Ubuntu -in terminal - "sudo apt install gdebi - but it is the default installer

If you start multiple programs from the directory a set of bash scripts which
change to the appropriate directory and run the set of programs for each set of
books you work on might be useful. You could launch the scipts from either the
Ubuntu menu or from desktop launchers.

The type Spreadsheet is the same independent of whether the data file is stored
in sqlite3 or xml format on Linux. I can't test the other database formats at
this point.
