I just upgraded my system to Ubuntu 22.04 (from 21.10). As a non-official
application, GNUcash seems to have been removed from the system or rendered
non-functional though a launch icon remains and does nothing. Prior to
install, I was running GNC 4.9.

Using Windows 11 and GnuCash 4.10
Also had this issue in an older version. Clicked on the "X" to shut down and
had not saved first. In the dialogue I clicked on Cancel, but it still
shutdown. I expected "Cancel" to cancel the operation (shutdown), am I wrong.
What operation is it canceling?
I have found that in one instance of of GnuCash 3.8 in a Ubuntu 21.04
laptop and in another instance of GnuCash 3.8 in a virtualbox instance of
Linux Lite based, I think, on the same release of Ubuntu, that if the
machines are allowed to to develop swap files larger than a few hundred

I just tested 4.10 on Windows 10 and all 3 buttons close without saving and
then on relaunching got the lock error. However, if I let my 3 second
auto-save timer expire it does save changes as expected and I do not get
the lock error on relaunching.

Ubuntu release strongly pushes everything packaged in snaps. (I haven't
upgraded yet so I'm only going by some initial reviews.) I definitely don't

As Ubuntu and Linux Mint are ultimately Debian based it should be possible to
install using dpkg or the Gdebi installer (you may need to install this on
Ubuntu -in terminal - "sudo apt install gdebi - but it is the default installer
in Linux Mint) from http://ftp.us.debian.org/deb
