Apologies for my typo - I'm running 5.10 (not 5.1) and thanks for the pointer.
Regards.

I'm using version 5.10 on Win 10 - it's the 3td last option on the Report
options popup Display tab for me. Maybe time to upgrade if it's not in
vers 5.1 ?

I'm getting used to GnuCash and playing around with reports too. I just
looked at the Transaction Report and under the display tab I don't see
the option to tick "Account Balance" as you suggest. I'm running V5.1 on
Windows but surely the report options should be the same across all
platforms?

Exactly, that is what I've been doing for years, copied directly as the opening
of a new XL sheet for the period concerned. I then fiddle about with the style

Yes, thank you, I think this is something I've been overlook
It's also worth remembering that if you create a new account that you want
to appear in the report,
you have to go to the 'Options' of the report and select it, keeping in
mind to hold down 'ctrl' or 'cmd' (or whatever key)
before you select it, otherwise everything already selected is deselected,
To add, it is easy to edit a saved report: (Linux: Edit>Report Options)
I use this to:
-Change the date range for report.
-Add/remove accounts to appear.
-General cleaning up reports eg columns shown.
I use this to give my Rental tenancies a payment report.
I also use saved reports to prepare
Once you DO get a report the way you want it, you can "save" the
report configuration, so you shouldn't have to go through all of the setup
again (such as select accounts).

You need two reports and the standard report versions will likely do
what you require:
Balance Sheet
Income Statement
Once you have them open Edit->Report Options from the menu will allow
you to set thes pecific accounts you desire to include and the level
of nesting of sub-accounts and

Arguable (and has been argued at length), but it isn't at present. Saved
report configs are stored in a discrete file in the user directories. See the
FAQ for more.
This does me

Saved reports do not get saved in the data file. See

You should show the Balance Sheet at the start of accounting period
compared to Balance Sheet at the end of the accounting period. That with
the Income Statement covers most of the items you requested.
You might be able to get both Balance Sheet on one page with the multi
report section. I have

I guess the most appropriate report in your case would be the standard
Profit and Loss (P&L) report, which is predefined in GNC and available
from the Reports pull-down menu (Reports->Income & Expense->Profit &

Honestly.
The question you *should* be asking is "What information exactly are you
looking for in your reports?" rather than the OS and GC version.
Gnucash has *always* (well, at least since I started using it in 2006) had
issues with its reporting modules. The mechanisms are not easy to grok
