1. I'm betting linux will make a better print server than windows
2. racking up the logging level in /etc/cups/cupsd.conf should give you
some more clues to google on.

If you know LaTeX, you could try writing a shellscript that prints a

my printers.conf needed manual editing -- it had two different lp0
printers in it somehow, one of them badly mangled.
