John,
Maybe you could help us by being very specific with what worked and what
went wrong? The only thing I could gather from your message was that it
was difficult to do, and it was slow.

No. It is not clear if the issue is within FreeDOS, the applications
program, the VM, or VirtualBox itself. It is good that FreeDOS and
VirtualBox have source code. The applications program does not.
Can you describe what exactly were the problems?
As for myself I've had no issues with getting FreeDOS to run in VMWare player,
QEMU and VitualBox. I used the original FreeDOS 1.0 install and have manually
updated the kernel since then. As for VirtualBox specifically, it will run a

You can browse the Sourceforge Svn repository at

You'll find a mixture of C and Assembler for the FreeDOS kernel.

I spent four days getting FreeDOS to work as a guest OS inside a VirtualBox
machine. The path to success was a rocky and time consuming trial and
error process. Once the particular console program was running it was not
very fast. The customer deemed it to be usable.
Later in the day the custom

Hey,
Of course. I meant just a general FreeDOS 1.1 install. I actually
found a seemingly unedited verion of it in C:\fdos\autoexec.txt and
another in C:\fdos\config.txt . Also, I can't remember (now that I
think about it) what files come with a general instal of FreeDOS. I'll
try to install it on

Never mind what I said about wanting to fix it so win98 and FreeDOS could
work together. Now I just want to purge win98 from the system. I know it

You mean from a generic FD 1.1 install? Or just a bare minimum good setup?
Or just a copy of our own private version?
I'm not sure what magi
Hey,
I have some suggestions for the site, but I didn't know where to post

Hello,
Could somebody provide me with an example of an unedited "autoexec.bat"
file that FreeDOS uses? I installed win98 on another (slave) hard-drive,
but it added all these files to "C" drive and edited my "autoexec.bat"
file. It really made me mad because I just wanted to have the win98 as a

Good to know! Any particular games or demos you tested with it (or
intend to test)?
