Don't worry about recompiling everything right away. Gnome takes a long
time to compile! The cpu type does seem to help multimedia apps and WMs if
they were designed to take advantage of the extra instructions.

Does courier-imap do smtp? Sendmail doesn't listen for outside mail by
default, but in some cases it does listen on port 25 witout accepting
connections. look at /etc/rc.conf and see what you have enabled.

in other words, 5.x has a generic 802.11b driver called wlan(4) that
contains common infrastructure among the many wireless drivers. that's
what i get for just switching from 4.x (i don't believe there was such
a thing).

Apache's testing platform is FreeBSD. So probably it is release under
BSD license. Will have to check it out though.
HTTPD might be tested on FreeBSD, but not all apache projects are.
Tomcat is tested on sun and linux system I believe.

I would suggest C before C++. I took a C class after tring C++ on my own.
I tought C++ was newer and better. Actually I found it was only newer. It
has new features and such, just not better because it was an extension or
expansion to C. I don't use C++ so I am sure there are those that would
K & R is a good book.
For C++, Absolute C++ was my textbook last semester and I found it to be
pretty good. Avoid the Deitel & Deitel C++ book. It has a few good
reference chapters but covers material in a very choppy way. Practical C++
programming from O'Reilley is a good book on C++ basics.

out. Most of the posts claimed you had to run portsdb -u after
portindex.

I have been trying to compile Mime Defang from the
ports collection for about a week now.
I cvsup'd the other day to upgrade sendmail to the
latest (8.12.8?) after that vulnerability. I have
SASL2 compiled in with it (used ports collection).

I have one of my domains that I use for mail hosted with a web hosting
provider. I have the same problem. So I've been mailing to the list from
my own box. It makes for a nice annoyance, huh?
