To be fair, I have mostly paid closer to $3 a gallon. USPS may get a
better deal as they don't buy retail.

A quick look at says the postal service shows actual mpg of about 9 mpg (due to
start and stop).
So for a 200,000 miles at 9 mpg and $4/gal gives a gas cost of around $90,000.
so the extra price of the EV is most likely justified in the long run because
of the crappy mpg.

The current postmaster general, previously appointed by Trump in his first
term, has already cut the number of postal EVs. Now rump II is threatening
to kill postal EVs entirely.
Also plans to kill the $7500 EV tax credit and water down ICEV fuel
efficiency standards.
