regardless of whether people are access "mail.domain", "pop3.domain" or
"imap.domain", the hostname mismatch does not occur?
Thanks again!

ghtly or wrongly, i used the standard ports (110
for POP3, 143 for IMAP). I know SSL typically operates on higher ports
numbers, at least for IMAP, but I dont' know how this all works when you
turn off non-encrypted protocols.
Any advice gratefully received!
Thanks again,
Richard.

If they are unique, then I don't need to generate my own, perhaps?
Thanks again,

Finally, is there a way to monitor which users are connecting over the
secure ports and which users are connecting over the non-secure ports?
Thanks in advance!

Anyway... i'm glad i've found the problem, even if it does make the
migration a little annoying! :-)

i end up with duplicates in my inbox, despite them having the same UIDLs!
The only difference i can see is that the old mail server has the X-UIDL
header towards the end of the headers, and the new server puts the
X-UIDL header right at the top above all other headers.
Does anyone know what
see this:
X-UIDL: a=="!(3N"!&D'"!87D"!
whaton earth is going on here...
both now have the same X-UIDL, but are being downloaded separately!
So... does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks again!

mpletely removed, exim is currently setup to deliver via
it's own method into the mbox files in /var/spool/mail but the exim
service is stopped because i'm migrating, and dovecot 1.1 is installed
but stopped, and has had no configuration done to it yet whatsoever.
So... any advice?

21. Reconfigure backup script to make sure new server is backed up.
22. Modify Nagios config to monitor new server.
23. DONE!
Thanks in advance, everyone! :-)

This raises an interesting question for me actually... given that we've
now decided dovecot and maildir is the way forward for us, which
delivery method should we use in exim? exim can support maildir,
(right?) and so can dovecot, so should i use dovecot's "deliver"
mecha

8. Configure the "convert" plugin to begin converting the mail to dbox
format.
9. Run something manually (if possible) to convert mailboxes before
people connect, so the task is already done by the time the outage is over.
10. Give staff access to
