I edited by hand (because it was just one line on two files). I still don't
know how to patch.
Unfortunately it didn't solve the problem (see below)
Maybe this is related to issues in bootstrap? (which do not affect 42X
building) e.g.
ignoring commons-httpclient-3.1-src.tar.gz because

Can you open a Pull Request on GitHub with the patch to upgrade OpenSSL?
I can test it on Windows with 4.1.8.

Surprising numbers!
Regarding FreeBSD:
Does it make sense to check for updates?
The OS/2 version is being built with --disable-online-update. That
removes the entry in the menu and the options page.
