It's a badly (malconformant) constructed EDID. It doesn't list a
preferred mode, so it is assumed to be the first in its list of detailed
modes -- 1024x768. Just select 1280x1024 from display settings and it

I still get this effect on Ubuntu 13.04 Raring 64 Bit.
I can easily get this bug by connecting to a windows share in our network and
play a large (125MB) mpeg video with
any player e. g. vlc.
If it does not happen after 5-10 starts, just open the videos with a few

I'm running saucy with the latest 3.9.0-0.4 kernel and the latest linux-
firmware package 1.107 which have added ca0132 firmware files.
Now I have this error message at boot "ca0132 DOWNLOAD FAILED!!! DSP IS
NOT RUNNING.΅
The sound still doesn't work.
Any tips, how can I fix this?

thanks for this – this is really a great workaround for as long as the
fix isn't included in the kernel.
When I use this boot parameter (on a Folio 13-2000) UPower recognizes
un/plugging of the ac adapter and the special keys (brightness +/- and
wireless adapter toggle) are working.

Pushing the audio up/down buttons or manually from the sound indicator
bar, the volume level range is too narrow. takes 3-4 button clicks from
100% to no sound.
The" no sound level" comes at the 75-80% of the sound bar.
