I had a corrupted ~/.cache/oneconf directory, causing oneconf-server to
crash (a KeyError in hosts.py: self.current_host['hostid']) and then I
would see the same DBusException from the oneconf-query client as
described above.
Deleting ~/.cache/oneconf fixed it for me.

External monitors are not recognized in display settings when plugged in
(into any port including VGA).
They *are* recognized after a reboot (not after logout).
