Selecting American from the GDM login screen does seem to resolve the
problem. All the Metacity tool tips now use en_US instead of en_GB.

The bug has been reproducible on my computer, all one needs to do is
click on the sound icon in the system tray in the top right handside of
the Ubuntu GUI then click "sound preferences." From there on the first
tab, there is a sub screen that allows you to change the default alert

This happens consistently every time on my laptop running Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS.
I keep it running with the lid open and the AC power cable connected, when I
unplug the cable Ubuntu auto-suspends (battery is well over 90%). Extremely
