Miro ;-)
Miro has one advantage over Rhythmbox - it can resume playback of a media file
from the point where it was stopped.

I had the same problem as D S on Ubuntu Gutsy 64 bit. What I did is I
completely removed Rhythmbox, manually removed rhythmbox folder in my home
folder, then installed it with recommended package python-louie (which wasn't
installed). This improved situation a little, but still there is another
