I don't know if it is a gdm issue - but I can't login into my system.
After I updated yestarday I went home and put my system to sleep. Today when I
came in to work I woke it up and was presented with the lock-screen input
password dialog. Numerous attempts to enter the password failed. I reboote

Same here, but not quite.
Loaded the usual updates yesterday evening, everything seemed fine. This
morning I found the login screen resetting every time I click either my own
username or the 'other user' option. It is certainly not X crashing and coming
back, since the rest of the desktop stays

rescue mode. No joy.

I was able to see it and delete it after restarting gdm using:
go to TTY using F# log in and run the following command than hit F7

- boot into rescue mode
- choose 'resume normal boot'
- this gives me a pure text mode login, no virtual tty
- login with user/passw as normal
- issue command 'startx'
after that I get my normal desktop and eve

Confirmed. This doesn't occur everytime, but for some weird reason the dialog
hangs, and the password is set to something such as:

which seems to be invalid because running 'passwd' doesn't ask for t
Additional note: before debugging users-admin further, we should
determine whether we can reproduce the bug by running 'passwd' from
commandline. If the real bug is in 'passwd', that would explain why the
password got corrupt, which is hard to understand if only users-admin
hung.

this doesn't actually seem to be an USB device? How is that drive
connected?

I think there is an additional consitency problem with Lucid. For the
user point of view there should be no difference in behaviour between
the Gwibber+gwibber-service (which starts automatically) combination and
Empathy+telepathy. I mean that for a user both apps will display
notification in the b
