I, for one, hereby officially request that Canonical or one of the MOTU
fix the bug in Karmic. As noted above, people tend to get mad when

You have a point but not exactly. Notice that I mentioned disabling other
sounds than System Ready. Both solutions affect the whole system. These fixes:

seconds during which the CPU is 100% loaded, for th actual help text to appear.

This issue happens for me when I use the rhythmbox toolbar volume
control.
If I change the system volume control, or use the sound preferences
dialog by right-clicking on the panel icon to alter the rhythmbox
volume, then all is fine, but if I try to change the volume from the
toolbar in Rhythmbox
