I have been experiencing the exact same problem on a Dell Vostro 1510
laptop on both jaunty and karmic (worked fine on intrepid).
After I boot, the keyboard and touchpad sometimes work at the login

Ok, I am fairly convinced that this isn't a problem with rhythmbox as
much as it is a problem with Ubuntu not recognizing the insertion of the
CD. Just to test, could you find a non-music CD or DVD and insert that
into the drive to see if Ubuntu does anything?
