That's not a usable workaround - menus should be completely configurable
on a per-user basis. It's particularly bad for users who legitimately
don't have administrative privileges, and so want to make all that crap
they can't use not appear in their menus.

I think this is still problem because the user doesn't know that he
can't edit these menu parts, so I think the best solution is when the
entries that are read-only for the user should mark on such ways that
they may have a different background colour or a greyed ch

The two options do seem to do what they say they do - Make the right
margin visible and also disable splitting of long words during word
wraps.
However, in almost all text editors the right margin is actually a
boundary for the word wrap. Here in gedit it is just a visual boundary
- no wrappi
Here's what the Gimp person said:
"That's a problem with your printer driver then. This works correctly
for me.
Also we don't accept bug reports for GIMP 2.4 any longer. Please update to the
latest stable release."
Not sure where the issue lies now. You can try upgrading to 2.6 as he
