I believe this is caused by the lack of a "Y/I/N/O/D/Z" prompt when the
package manager is trying to upgrade a config file which has been
"created by you or by a script". I had this happen when I first
installed Ubuntu Gnome 16.04 from scratch, I selected automatic login

entire X desktop.
My Ubuntu desktop mysteriously freezes until I press a key on the
keyboard or move the mouse. The entire desktop stops updating. The GNOME

I have the same problem but it only happens if you double-click a
folder. If you double click, then the selecting stops working. If you
right click the folder and choose 'open' it still works fine. I'm
running twm with thunar installed as my only file manager and it stopped
working when I upgrad

I installed the metacity source (apt-get source metacity), built it with
debugging and replaced the running metacity:
./src/metacity --replace
After increasing the number of workspaces to 17 and attempting to change
workspaces, metacity asserted an error

The window manager is metacity. I can go into gconf-editor and change
the number of workspaces there. The same result occurs. When the
number of workspaces is set above 16, nothing seems to occur at that

smbclient if it should get the directory, on my computer smbclient asks if it

install hardy on any of my computers with this bug.

was able to copy files and folders from my smb shared hard drive with gutsy
7.10. I upgraded to hardy 8.04 today and copying files works but not folders
