I am running Karmic on Dell Inspiron 1721 laptop. I have noticed the
following situation lately. I open a folder with an avi file (e.g. a
film), and double-click on it to launch. Totem opens up, and I see my
memory usage starts growing steadily until reaching 100% in 30s-60s.

How is this a bug in compiz, exactly? Unlike other problems compiz might
have with other programs metacity can be fixed and it should be pretty
easy to do so. The only thing I can think of compiz could do here is use
a timestamp sometime in the distant future but that hardly seems proper.
