If ekiga freeze, you can lunch it using gdb and hit CTRL-C when it
freeze. Then you could have a backtrace.
But it seems more an ALSA problem as you said.

windows doesn't recognize some cards with the toshiba laptops, but I

I take my second comment back; /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/* are not
ignored. However,
1. I stand by my initial statement that /etc/acpi/suspend.d/* are

2. the usual tricks one uses to run X applications as the X user

I am unable to troubleshoot since I no longer have the old known_hosts
file. But, accessing directly seems to do the same thing as Connect to
Server, so I imagine the results would be the same. It seemed almost
like gvfs wasn't expecting this scenario and eventually timed out
