Initial mail was generated by reportbug. I have repeatedly reproduced this
bug with 2.9 installed, and even found a workaround for X clients (a call to
XOpenDisplay() and keeping the display open during the lifetime of the
sess
xterm crashes Xorg.
I presume that SDL starts some auxiliary X connection that when it's closed,
causes the crash.
Additionally, this bug is at least several months old over here.

o reproduced on Silicon Motion SM710 so it
is not limited to Intel. I don't have a log since I asked a friend just to
try it out remotely.
Since the bug is not limited to Intel, about an hour ago I have reassigned
the bug to xserver-xorg-core.

ashes immediately because it opens a client connection to
X.org, closes it soon afterwards, and then opens another one. Thus, after
closing the first connection, there is a crash and the second one (the one
that actually opens a window) never happens. This is just a guess.

I'd like to additionally state that this bug has been around for (at least)
2-3 months since I've reached the stage where my login manager can launch an
X session (instead of just depending on existing running X session).
