Finally I got around to re-enabling DPMS and managed to reproduce the
problem. Currently the monitor is stuck in power-saving mode and no
amount of banging the keyboard or wiggling the mouse is waking it, but I
can still SSH to the machine and "do stuff".

(6.9.something-7.0.22).
However, I can't repeat them -- they seem to have gone away. I have an
