I intent to adopt the agrep package.
As a first step I intent do merge all existing sources (alioth GIT
including some unpublished changes by Jari Alto) and move to salsa.

Please note, this is only my personal opinion and if the majority of the
Debian HPC team thinks otherwise, I have no problem with it. I just
think it's better to have this discussion now, rather than after you have
done all the work and it possibly would have been in vain ...

For the record, the current problem is assembling debian/copyright
automatically according to DEP-5. The file headers and copyright holders
are not always recognizable by licensecheck, but upstream is discussing
about using SPDX in the future, so I'll wait if that helps.
