Every time I use apt-get to install packages, it stops while configuring
xemacs20-support with the following error message:
(Reading database ... 68943 files and directories currently installed.)

I realized that in the standard configuration for ProFTPd the daemon
now runs as User and Group root. In an older version it used to be

Once (Debien 1.3.1) I could use my ZIP drive by saying

insmod sd_mod
insmod ppa
After I installed Debian 2.0, ppa.o was not there any more. Now I
installed kernel 2.2.5. So ppa.o is there again, but not the other two
modules above. If I just say
insmod ppa

I did an update and upgrade with apt-get. While configuring the
packages, apt-get stoped with an error while configuring xemacs. How
can I now configure the rest of the packages?
It's now also impossible to do a telnet to that machine. I checked in
/etc/inetd.conf and saw, that the telnet line was
I encountered some problems while upgrading with apt-get. I ended up
with removing xemacs20, then apt-get update and apt-get upgrade
finished without error. But now some programs are missing. E.g. xterm
and startx.
What could have gone wrong?

I have the following problem on a Intel PC Debian system I maintain:
For the second time the file system got mounted read only for an
unknown reason. The first time only my personal mailbox file
(/var/spool/mail/me) got corrupted as far as I could see. The second
time, after the reboot fsck.ext2
I use Debian with kernel 2.0.36. All information I can get from the
BIOS of my Intel PC about the parallel port ist, that io is 0x278 and
that the mode is normal (other possible modes: ECP, EPP 1.9 and EPP
1.7). So I say modprobe lp io=0x278. The printer is a HP LaserJet 4P
connected trough a bidir

XF86_Mach64 crashed on my system, leaving it in graphics mode. No the
keyboard is blocked and I can't change to a virtual console
anymore. ps aux tells me that the X server is gone. How can I unlock
the keyboard?

I use Debian with kernel 2.2.x and autofs to automount CD ROMs. What
are the ways to allow a user to unmount and eject the CD ROM without
having to wait until automount has timed out after five
minutes. Probably adding option user to /etc/fstab should do the
trick.

the script and made the necessary stuff myself. Now I made a softlink

I moved /usr/doc to /home/doc, since I have more space on the
partition that is mounted on /home. Then I created a softlink to it:
