Yes, I know gcc currently doesn't do much Pentium optimisations, so
at the moment the question between wheter dpkg should say "i586"
or "i486" is rather pointless anyway. But when there will be a difference,
it's best to make sure that dpkg returns the same on all
and nobody can fix bugs in them.
So, really the best thing to do is to replace the XIRCOM card.

that you only need to change the indicated lines in /etc/menu-methods/menu.h,
and every sufficiently new window manager will atumatically use rxvt for

It does mean that wmaker's menu-method probably one of the best

(Yeah, I know you're not intereseted in this tragic story about
computer abuse by systemadmins, but I'm still traumatised, and just needed
to vent this).
BTW, the systemadmin that went out of his mind back then has left, so
maybe I can try starting rwho on
the module loads are tried?
See above -- should not be needed.

Use userdel from the passwd package.
I believe userdel is better than the deluser that used to come with
the adduser package, so deluser was removed.

mply doesn't work, I guess the powers
that be decided (wisely) to remove it from bo.
In short, there hasn't been a working xoj package for the last
6 or so months (except maybe if you had _very_ old libc5 stuff), and the
xoj-..-2 one is the first working one.
