For your laptop? You need a means to acquire an IP configuration, so
if the network has a dhcp server providing that, then you only need a
dhcp client on your laptop. I recommend dhclient. Samba doesn't care
whether the IP is dhcp or static.

At boot, try entering this at the boot prompt:

PPP all the time. With
the PPPoE package, I use the following string to make a
connection:
# /usr/sbin/pppd pty 'pppoe' noauth defaultroute user $USER mtu $MTU
$USER is my username and I don't always set an mtu, try without
it first. noauth sets it so you don't need to authenticate your
peer and defaultroute sets the assigned IP address as your
default route. Be sure that your password is listed in
/etc/ppp/pap-secrets and/or /etc/ppp/chap-secrets

What interface has 192.168.100.1 and 172.16.1.1? You don't
indicate where they are or what the path should be to get there.
I assume the default routes for each were omitted, and point to
you internet provider.
On your successful pings, use a traceroute for those to confirm
the path they are taking to help troubleshoot.

In your kernel, did you set CONFIG_PRINTER=
There's a way to do that using apt/dpkg, but someone else will
have to explain it...I've never tackled that process, yet.

config for this interface to be bridged in the Configuration
editor and that will allow you to access the outside networks.
You could also reconfigure VMware to have two virtual interfaces,
one for host-only and one for bridged. You would need to re

assume this goes for all versions of Windows. What probably is
happening is LILO is handing off to the hda6 partition to boot
and W2K is sayin' "nah-uh, can't do it".
If this is indeed the case, you're g
modules off the floppy that came with the cards and add it
to the 2.2.19 kernel...with no hitches...very nice...
always always always burn yourself a nice copy of the
latest kernel...that way, you'll always have it around when
you need it.

f the light is on steady, you probably just have the LED
indicator plugged in wrong. It could be backwards on the prongs,
or plugged into the wrong connectors altogether. Check you
mainboards documentation to see if it's correct.
