Afaik, you can use mkisofs with dvdrecord. I don't make the iso images
myself, I let jigdo do this, but you can use iso9660 to do dvd.

Dselect, or aptitude , have search functions. Searching on cups shows
cupsys and some other cups related packages, *-gimp-print., etc. There are
some foomatic packages that have additional printer drivers also.

What do you get from 'dvdrecord -scanbus' or /cat /proc/scsi/scsi' ?

I am curious as to why you use the framebuffer driver . The Matrox 550
card has its own driver in Xfree86 4.2.1 (mga). I am not familiar with
the use of this card and a LCD monitor or framebuffer technology
select-apt' will use the list of mirrors from Debian.org, find the
fastest one to your location, then write a sources.list file. Interesting
info on different mirror sites.

It is not Open Source, hence the EULA, and it runs on a Corel version of
Wine. It is a bitmap editor much like Gimp. Gimp, being native, works

You can add a cdrom with 'apt-cdrom

One item that is dissapearing from laptops is a real serial port. I had
to buy based on that feature, but most hardware I looked at was
supported.

I use 'dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86' to configure my Matrox card.
Also the V & H are ranges, i.e. v=30-97, h=50-160, unless you are using
a LCD.
In Woody there is a tool for configuring the Matrox dual head card:

Uninstall XDM and install KDM, if you installed the task x-window-system
you will have to uninstall that first, it is only a meta-package, will
not affect other apps.

wrong permissions. It is owned by
root but the group is user, and X won't start untill I chgrp to root.
Problem is this is a manual intervention and it then boots straight to
KDE so I can't choose Wmaker.

Are you using USB 1 or 2 ? USB 1.x would seem s
it appears you had LPR stuff installed at the same time. Start fresh,
purge all printing systems except cups. It looks like you are not using
Woody so I can't say how to fix the conflicts issue.
Cups uses a different printcap file, /etc/printcap.cups. I
