problem chroot-ing apache2 in debian 3.1

Hey all. I've got a problem chrooting apache2 in sarge. Here is the problem: I followed the linux.com tutorial on chrooting apache (http://www.linux.com/article.pl?sid=04/05/24/1450203) but at the end when I get to start apache it doesn't work: #/etc/init.d/apache2 start Starting apache: chroot:

Dead keys do not work in KDE, OpenOffice

After recent dist-upgrade (SID) to Xorg 7 the dead characters (ŽÁČ) work only in GTK programs (Gimp, Firefox). They do not work in KDE apps, they do not work in Openoffice. Konsole is even not able to correctly display national characters like: ěščřžýáíé Just for info: my locales are cs_CZ.UTF

I  do not know what is causing this, but I do know that the program makejail does the chrooting automatically for you. Maybe you would like to have a look at it.For Apache you problably only have to do:mkdir "your chroot directory specified in /usr/share/doc/makejail/examples/apache.py" makejail /u

Upgrading from Ubuntu to Debian

I'm coming to Debian via Ubuntu. Ubuntu (Breezy Badger) mightily impressed me after struggling for several years and never quite succeeding with Slackware. I'd now like to remove the fluff, and get to the underlying Debian basics. Is there any established method for moving from Ubuntu to Debian

Found the problem. There was a script in /etc/rc.boot that was calling aumix. Since rc.boot gets called after the rcS.d scripts (and before rc.d scripts) it was negating what alsactl had done for me. This is just one of several little 2.4.x -> 2.6.x kernel upgrade tweaks I've needed to root
